Realm of Ink: Ink-wash eastern-style roguelike lands on PC and consoles
After a long journey through Early Access with countless positive feedback from the community, Realm of Ink officially launches today (May 26, 2026) with its full 1.0 version on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
The story of Red and the ink-wash world
In Realm of Ink, players take on the role of Red – a female swordswoman trapped inside a book world, where her fate has already been predetermined. While pursuing the Fox Demon, Red gradually uncovers the truth behind her existence and becomes determined to break the chains of destiny.
The game world is designed in a classic Chinese ink-wash painting style, blended with a vibrant and lively color palette. From lush green forests to the sacred ruins of the Mausoleum, each region offers a distinct atmosphere. The enemies are also heavily inspired by Chinese folklore: the cunning Fox Demon, the elegant Peony Fairy, and the elusive Mirror Sprite – all with their own backstories.
Gameplay: fast-paced roguelite action
In terms of gameplay, Realm of Ink is a fast-paced roguelite hack-and-slash with significant build depth. Each run is an opportunity to experiment with a completely new playstyle:
- Over 40 Ink Gems to choose and combine.
- Over 200 artifacts to unlock and customize builds.
- Multiple forms and weapons that can be flexibly combined.
Players who enjoy a challenge will also find plenty to engage with: the Trial Valleys and Endless Challenge modes deliver harsh trials to compare scores and prove skill.
Momo and the evolving Ink Beast system
One of the most warmly received highlights from the Early Access community is Momo, Red's Ink Beast companion. Not only does Momo fight alongside her, but it can instantly transform when players combine Ink Gems in specific ways, unlocking more than 15 unique forms, each with a completely different skill set. This system adds significant depth to character building and surprises in every run.
Surprise crossover with BlazBlue
Accompanying the official 1.0 release is a special crossover with the popular fighting game series BlazBlue. Characters from the BlazBlue universe will appear in Realm of Ink, bringing a fresh twist for players familiar with both franchises.
