The story: when all mining operations suddenly lose contact

The story of Rogue Core revolves around a mysterious event known as The Grayout, which completely severed communication with all deep mining operations on the planet Hoxxes. The Deep Rock Galactic corporation is forced to deploy its last resort: an elite unit known as the Reclaimers.

Unlike ordinary miners, Reclaimers are the corporation’s heavy security force—called in only when all other options have failed. Their mission is to descend into the depths, uncover what happened, and eliminate anything standing in their way.

Roguelite mechanics: starting from nothing and becoming a legend

The biggest difference between Rogue Core and the original Deep Rock Galactic is its roguelite structure. Each run begins with nothing more than a pickaxe. Weapons, gear, and upgrades must be found during the expedition—either in abandoned mining zones or crafted using a rare mineral called Expenite.

This design ensures that every run feels completely different. The strongest builds are not pre-planned, but formed through adaptive choices made during combat. Teams can also coordinate to create unified squad builds instead of each player acting independently.

Difficulty also escalates over time: the longer players stay, the more intense the pressure becomes—unlike the original game, which maintains a relatively stable difficulty curve.

Reclaimers and reclaimer gauntlets: new weapons, new strategies

The weapon arsenal in Rogue Core is designed specifically for Reclaimers, featuring advanced firearms, cutting-edge equipment, and experimental biological enhancements reserved for this elite force. Each Reclaimer is equipped with Reclaimer Gauntlers, a unique weapon system capable of turning the tide of battle when used at the right moment.

Corespawn: the most dangerous enemies yet

Deep beneath the surface of Hoxxes, a new species emerges: Corespawn. These are not ordinary creatures—they are more aggressive, more resilient, and more intelligent than anything the mining teams have encountered before. The corporation classifies Corespawn as a severe threat, and the Reclaimers’ mission is to eliminate them without mercy.

Character progression and long-term customization

Rogue Core also features a meta-progression system, meaning some character progress carries over between runs. According to Ghost Ship Games, this is what separates a “roguelite” from a “roguelike,” and is the reason the studio uses the roguelite label for the game.

Combined with expanded class customization, a wide range of build combinations, and procedurally generated cave systems, no two runs are ever exactly the same.
