The PC gaming market has officially welcomed the release of Thick as Thieves on Steam. Far from being a standard heist title, the project has drawn strong attention from the industry thanks to a veteran development team behind Deus Ex and Thief, landmark franchises that helped define the stealth-action genre.

The meeting point of major names in the gaming industry

What makes Thick as Thieves stand out from the moment it was announced is its experienced development team. The game features contributions from Warren Spector (studio director of Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows) and Paul Neurath (executive producer of Thief: The Dark Project and Thief: The Metal Age). With decades of experience building immersive worlds and refined stealth mechanics, the duo aims to deliver a true "hidden in the shadows" experience that fans have long been waiting for.

A world of magic and early 20th-century technology

The game is set in the fictional city of Kilcairn in Scotland during the 1910s. It takes place in an alternate historical timeline where ancient magic and early industrial technology begin to collide in dramatic and unpredictable ways.

Players take on the role of a new member of the Thieves' Guild. Your mission is to infiltrate heavily guarded landmarks across the city, steal priceless heirlooms, and uncover the dark secrets of the Constabulary and the city’s elite aristocracy.

Creative gameplay: solo or co-op

Thick as Thieves offers a roughly 4-hour introductory campaign. Players can experience the game solo or through online co-op with one other player. The game features two distinct thief characters: The SPIDER and The CHAMELEON. Each character comes with unique abilities, skill sets, and playstyles, requiring careful observation and flexible decision-making in every situation.

Diverse tools and high customization

To successfully execute high-stakes heists, players are given six unique tools that can be customized for each mission. When plans fall apart, players can use Slithersap to short-circuit security lighting systems, throw a Smoke Bomb to escape enemy sightlines, or activate the Pickpocket Fairy to remotely manipulate mechanical switches. The combination of stealth, distraction, and improvisation is key to success.

High replay value with dynamic systems

A major strength of the game is its customizable difficulty and environment systems. With 3 main mission types and 16 contracts spread across two dynamic maps, no two heists play out the same way. As players increase difficulty from Novice to Master Thief, security layouts and guard patrol routes are dynamically reshuffled. This ensures short play sessions remain engaging while encouraging players to experiment with new creative approaches.

Thick as Thieves is now officially available on PC via Steam as of May 20, 2026. Prepare your tools, step into the shadows of Kilcairn, and prove yourself as the greatest thief of all.
