The world of Statera and Soren's rebellion

The story takes place in Statera, a land devastated by Dark Pain, an ancient and mysterious source of destructive energy. The Order of the Ashen Crusade controls most of the realm through brutality and unwavering devotion to the Lord of Pain.

As the conflict drags on, the boundaries between worlds begin to fracture, allowing creatures born from Dark Pain to invade and spread even greater devastation. Players step into the role of Soren, a retired veteran who has settled down as a blacksmith. After a devastating attack on his family, Soren is forced back into battle, leading a rebellion alongside the Blue Net faction and other free forces against the overwhelming power of the Order of the Ashen Crusade.

Turn-based tactical combat on grid-based battlefields

Prelude Dark Pain features turn-based tactical combat on grid-based maps. Every encounter requires careful positioning, movement, and squad coordination to maximize damage while maintaining a strong defensive formation.

Battlefield terrain plays a major role in shaping combat strategy:

  • High-ground advantage: Occupying elevated positions provides tactical benefits and improves offensive potential.
  • Dynamic environments: Some maps feature moving environmental elements that force players to adapt their strategies on the fly.
  • Unique mission objectives: Every mission introduces its own challenges, encouraging players to master the game's mechanics in exchange for valuable rewards.

Character roster and skill synergy

Squad customization and character progression are at the heart of Prelude Dark Pain:

  • More than 20 playable heroes: Players can build a party of up to five heroes from eight different classes, including Ranged DPS, Magic Support, Assassins, and more.
  • Deep talent trees and skill progression: Every hero features two talent trees and can unlock up to 25 unique skills. Combining these abilities creates powerful team synergies and devastating combo attacks.
  • More than 70 enemy types: Players will face over 20 unique factions spread across Statera, resulting in more than 70 enemy types and challenging final bosses.

Player choices shape the story and your allies

The world of Statera evolves based on the player's decisions. Choices made throughout the campaign directly influence the main storyline as well as which characters can be recruited. Some heroes may never appear, while others may refuse to join your cause depending on the decisions you made earlier in the game.

Side missions, Raid mechanics, and settlement development

In addition to the main campaign, the game offers a variety of optional activities that expand the lore and deepen the experience within the world of Statera:

  • World Missions: Accept quests from NPCs encountered across the world map to uncover additional stories, rewards, and lore.
  • Raid mechanics: Dispatch heroes from your settlement to rescue civilians, gather intelligence, collect resources, and repel enemy assaults.
  • Crafting and equipment upgrades: Use resources earned from missions to craft and upgrade weapons and equipment at your settlement, strengthening your party for future battles.
