Final Fantasy Resonance: revisiting classic pixel art with HD-2D graphics
Final Fantasy Resonance is a new role-playing game that takes players back to the familiar pixel art world of the Final Fantasy series while introducing new elements built on its classic foundations. The game officially launched on October 22, 2026.
Players will join a group of companions bound by a shared destiny on a journey to uncover the truth behind a mysterious force threatening to bring the world to the brink of destruction. Along the way, they can summon Visions to aid them in battle.
HD-2D graphics and familiar elements
Final Fantasy Resonance is the first entry in the series to adopt the HD-2D visual style. The game blends pixel art with dynamic camera angles and pixelated 3D models, delivering an experience that evokes nostalgia while offering a fresh perspective, with more dramatic and immersive moments.
This classic-style RPG adventure also unfolds in a world filled with elements fans know and love, including airships, crystals, espers, and moogles. These familiar features are woven throughout the game's narrative.
Turn-based combat and the Visions system
Players must exploit enemy weaknesses to stagger their opponents. Once an enemy's defenses are broken, players gain additional action opportunities, allowing them to seize the advantage with powerful Resonance attacks. Each battle is presented cinematically, with smart tactical decisions playing a key role in determining the outcome.
Visions are echoes of beloved characters from the Final Fantasy series. They fight alongside the player's party, each bringing unique skills and abilities that add depth to party customization.
Plenty of side content to explore
The game world also holds numerous secrets and optional challenges, including:
- The wandering swordsman Gilgamesh.
- The Colosseum, an arena featuring dangerous monsters and rewards to match.
- The Chamber of Arms, where formidable adversaries are sealed within legendary weapons.
- A showdown against Ultima Weapon.
