The Drifter launches on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 – a grindhouse-style action point-and-click game
On June 22, 2026, the point-and-click title The Drifter was officially released on Nintendo Switch and an enhanced version for Switch 2. This is the latest project from the developers behind Crawl, promising a fast-paced and gripping narrative experience.
Thrilling story with a classic cinematic style
In The Drifter, players follow protagonist Mick Carter, a drifter who takes on many jobs and never stays in one place for long. The story begins when Mick Carter hops a train to return to his hometown. There, he accidentally witnesses a violent murder, is chased by high-tech soldiers, and is thrown into a reservoir and drowned.
However, death is only the beginning of his troubles. Mick Carter’s consciousness is separated and suddenly pulled back into his body just seconds before the incident occurs. Framed for the murder he witnessed, haunted by his past, and plagued by the feeling that something from the other side is following him, Mick Carter is drawn into a twisted conspiracy involving shadow corporations and the centuries-long obsession of a deranged killer.
The game’s narrative is inspired by the storytelling styles of renowned authors and directors such as King, Crichton, and Carpenter, combined with a touch of 1970s Aussie grindhouse cinema.
Fast-paced and refined point-and-click gameplay
The Drifter is a reinvention of the traditional 2D point-and-click adventure genre. The game focuses on fast storytelling, removing aimless wandering sequences to keep the pacing tight. Puzzles serve as catalysts that connect the narrative together. As Mick Carter is a grounded character, the puzzles are designed to feel realistic, never interrupting the main story while instead enhancing the investigative experience for players.
Players will constantly face tense situations, from crafting a Molotov cocktail using a bottle of strong rum, interrogating a corrupt neurosurgeon, to swinging through a high-rise window using a frayed electrical cable.
