Shift At Midnight – co-op horror game where you sell gas and hunt doppelgangers
Shift At Midnight is an online co-op horror game that officially launched on Steam on June 17, 2026. The game blends detective and horror elements, supporting up to 3 players as they take on tense overnight shifts at a remote and dangerous gas station.
Gas station management and an unexpected detective role
In Shift At Midnight, players are responsible not only for keeping the gas station running smoothly—restocking shelves, selling enough goods to meet nightly quotas, receiving deliveries, and maintaining cleanliness—but also for inspecting every customer who walks in. This inspection process is where the game’s core tension emerges.
Some visitors are not human at all, but doppelgangers attempting to blend in. Players must take on a detective-like role by checking ID cards, cross-referencing system data, and carefully observing behavior. Only when a customer is confirmed to be human can they be allowed to leave. If a doppelganger is identified, players can deal with it on the spot and clean up the aftermath. However, missing even one impostor allows it to return later in the shift to hunt down the player and their team.
Consequences of mistakes and survival gameplay
When a doppelganger escapes the station, the situation quickly spirals out of control. The game shifts from management simulation into intense survival gameplay. Players must barricade doors with wooden planks, set up defensive traps, and find hiding spots as the doppelgangers return in monstrous forms. In these moments, survival is no longer guaranteed.
A better experience when playing with friends
While the game can be played solo, Shift At Midnight is designed to shine in multiplayer. Its proximity voice chat system enhances immersion and tension, forcing players to coordinate actions or quietly escape danger together in the silence of the night.
