Capcom's iconic action franchise takes a new step forward with the official release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 4, 2026. The game is now available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2, giving players the chance to experience intense action set against the series' signature dark atmosphere.

Ancient Kyoto shrouded in Genma darkness

Onimusha: Way of the Sword takes players to Kyoto during the Edo period. Once renowned for its historic temples and shrines, including Kiyomizu-dera, the ancient capital is now covered in an ominous supernatural mist. Genma monsters emerge from beneath the earth and invade the human world, plunging the capital into chaos and fear. Every area in the game is filled with dangers, mysteries, and intense battles.

Miyamoto Musashi's journey and the mystery of the Oni Gauntlet

The game's protagonist is the young samurai Miyamoto Musashi. He initially travels to Kyoto to prove his unparalleled swordsmanship, but is unexpectedly drawn into a battle against a deadly threat spreading across the land. To capture the determined swordsman's distinctive appearance, Capcom modeled Musashi's facial design after the late legendary Japanese film actor Toshiro Mifune.

Musashi's power is closely tied to the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical artifact that grants him the ability to defeat the Genma. In addition to enhancing his sword strikes beyond human limits, the gauntlet can absorb the souls of defeated monsters and convert them into energy that strengthens its wearer. However, the mysterious voice emanating from the gauntlet remains an unanswered question for players to uncover.
