Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave officially launches on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has officially released Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the latest turn-based tactical RPG in the Fire Emblem series, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The game launched on September 17, 2026, marking the series' return with a story centered on time travel and the intertwined destinies of four heroes.
Story: A journey through time to save the future
In Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, players take on the role of a customizable protagonist tasked with traveling back through time to gather allies and stop the demon god Balor. Throughout the game, players will guide four heroes whose intertwined journeys span the past and present as they work together to save the future from the brink of destruction.
Accompanying the protagonist are Fortuna, the goddess of fate, and Sothis, the primordial deity who has entrusted them with the mission of saving the world.
Meet the four heroes
The game's four main heroes each have their own stories and motivations:
- Cai – a boy determined to rescue his imprisoned father.
- Dietrich – a cold-hearted swordsman constantly searching for a worthy opponent.
- Theodora – a queen pursuing a long-held dream for her homeland.
- Leda – a talented musician driven by a desire for revenge.
The fates of these four characters are tied to the destiny of the entire world, and the player's choices will determine the paths they take toward victory.
Setting: The Dagdan Empire and the city of Dagsion
The story takes place in the Dagdan Empire, alongside the neighboring kingdoms of Arago, Brezarant, and Saramis. At the heart of the game is Dagsion, the capital of the Dagdan Empire, where skilled warriors from across the region gather to compete in the Heroic Games – a tournament whose prize is the chance to have one wish granted.
Between matches, players can explore various locations throughout the city: recruit allies, upgrade Blessings at temples, hone their skills at the training grounds, or build relationships with their companions at inns.
Turn-based tactical battles on grid-based maps
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave retains the series' signature tactical gameplay: players control combat units in turn-based battles, using each character's strengths and weaknesses as well as the terrain on grid-based maps to gain an advantage over their opponents.
Two notable new mechanics in this area are:
- Blaze Arts: powerful signature techniques that heroes can unleash by consuming HP. Using Blaze Arts fills the Blaze Gauge, providing a temporary power boost when it reaches the halfway point. However, if the gauge fills completely, the character enters the Burst state, which cancels all buffs and reduces their maximum HP by half.
- Blessings: divine blessings that players can gain the favor of the gods to acquire. Blessings can be upgraded to unlock additional effects, such as temporarily reducing damage taken from opponents.
Explore the world map and dungeons
Outside the Heroic Games, players can freely travel across the world map to complete side quests, gather resources, and defeat roaming monsters for experience. In Dungeons, players will face monsters and villains in Clashes – turn-based battles between the player's party and enemy forces – while also having opportunities to discover treasure chests and valuable materials.
For official matches held as part of the Heroic Games, some battles may feature special rules or make use of terrain in unique ways, requiring players to adapt their strategies accordingly.
By combining familiar turn-based tactics with a story centered on time travel and the intertwined destinies of its characters, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave offers a fresh experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike on Nintendo Switch 2.
