[HOT] League of Legends (PC) update 25.24: Official keyboard movement support

A feature once exclusive to Wild Rift is now available on PC. The 25.24 update of League of Legends brings a major change: official keyboard movement support. This marks a significant step forward that could reshape how players control their champions in the popular MOBA.

1. Keyboard movement: A new control system

Throughout League of Legends’ history, players have always relied on right-click movement. But starting in patch 25.24, Riot Games is testing and officially rolling out a new control method:

  • Main mechanic: Players can use familiar directional keys like WASD to move their champion.
  • Key difference: Instead of clicking a destination, you directly guide your champion’s movement—similar to many ARPGs.
  • Goal: Offer more intuitive control and quicker reactions, especially during skirmishes or fast-paced repositioning.

2. How to enable and set it up

To turn on keyboard movement in patch 25.24, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings: Click the gear icon in the game client.
  2. Go to Hotkeys: Select the “Hotkeys” tab.
  3. Find Player movement: Look for the “Player movement” section.
  4. Bind your keys: Set keys for up, down, left, right. WASD is the default, but you can customize it.
  5. Test it out: Jump into Practice Tool or a custom game to get used to the new controls.

Instead of repeatedly clicking to dodge skill shots, you can reposition more quickly with WASD. This new control style offers an advantage for Marksmen and Mages who frequently need to maintain distance.

While convenient, keyboard movement may make last hitting with the mouse a bit more challenging. Players will need time to adapt and balance keyboard movement with mouse-based spell usage.

Those who are used to WASD controls in ARPGs or MMORPGs will find it easier to pick up League of Legends. This is a smart move by Riot to help expand the player base.

4. The future of League: A new era or just an option?

Will keyboard movement fully replace mouse controls? Probably not. Mouse clicking is a core part of the MOBA experience and plays an important role in the skill expression of League players.
