The Wayback star system is now open to its bravest commanders. The strategy RPG Menace has officially launched in Early Access, inviting players to jump in, experience the game firsthand, and help shape its development through community feedback.

Menace is the latest turn-based tactical RPG from Overhype Studios – the team behind the acclaimed Battle Brothers. Players take on the role of a commander leading a mixed special task force made up of marines, mercenaries, and even criminals. Operating from the cruiser TCRN Impetus, your mission is to confront a mysterious threat emerging on the fringes of the galaxy.

Deep strategy and life-or-death decisions

In Menace, you sit at the top of the command chain in a star system falling into chaos. Players must travel between planets to respond to distress signals, manage limited resources, and choose their allies carefully. Whether you support criminal gangs for intelligence or cooperate with rescue teams to repair vital equipment will directly shape the direction of your campaign.

Each campaign is not limited to a single battle but unfolds through branching mission chains. You will face crucial strategic choices: take out enemy air defense systems first to clear the way for tanks, or strike straight at the center to rescue hostages? Every decision leaves lasting consequences across the entire star system.

Brutal and realistic combat system

True to the developer’s signature harsh design philosophy, battles in Menace are tense and high-risk. Players face enemies that often outnumber them and outmatch them technologically, across diverse environments and changing weather conditions.

  • Unit management: Command everything from infantry and tanks to agile walker units. Each unit and vehicle has distinct strengths and weaknesses that must be carefully considered.
  • Firepower and suppression mechanics: The game emphasizes effective firing ranges and suppression systems. Heavy gunfire can paralyze enemies even without direct hits.
  • Equipment customization: Cut off from regular supply lines, players rely on the black market and battlefield loot to upgrade weapons, from flamethrowers to EMP cannons.

Characters with personality and personal history

Squad commanders such as Pike, Rewa, and Lim are far from lifeless units. Each has their own personality, background, and psychological traits. Successes and failures on the battlefield directly affect their morale. You can develop their skills through a progression system, but remember: death in Menace is permanent (permadeath).

With procedurally generated maps and missions, every playthrough offers a completely new experience, pushing players’ tactical thinking to the limit.

Menace is now available on PC via Steam in Early Access starting February 5, 2026.
