DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations officially launches, opening a brutal new chapter for the Slayer
After more than a year of anticipation, id Software and Bethesda Softworks have officially released DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations, the first story expansion for the acclaimed first-person shooter DOOM: The Dark Ages. The DLC launched on July 7, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere and is available through Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass.
The Slayer returns after betrayal
Revelations continues the story immediately after the events of DOOM: The Dark Ages. Wounded and betrayed, the Slayer is cast into the brutal realm of Purgatory, where the only path to freedom is confronting haunting truths and reclaiming his strength with the help of a mysterious ally. His journey forces him to overcome the prison of his own mind before facing a monstrous creation forged by the gods, clearing the way to freedom for those who follow him.
Players will explore a massive central hub called Purgatory, which leads to six brand-new levels featuring more challenging puzzles, metroidvania-inspired level design, countless hidden paths, and collectible items. According to the developers, the new campaign offers an estimated 10 to 12 hours of gameplay, making it nearly as substantial as the base game.
Chain Spear changes the way you play
The biggest addition in Revelations is the brand-new Chain Spear. This left-hand weapon replaces the Shield for much of the early DLC, allowing the Slayer to impale demons from a distance or pull himself toward enemies for devastating close-quarters combat. The Chain Spear also functions as a grappling tool, creating new opportunities for both combat and platforming. Its dedicated upgrade tree rewards players who master its mechanics, making it increasingly powerful over time.
New enemies and familiar foes return
Revelations introduces a host of new demonic enemies, including the spellcasting Warlock and the Buzzsaws, demonic war machines built for spear combat. Familiar enemies also return, including Archvile, which now summons demons instead of resurrecting fallen ones, and the Cosmic Elemental, offering fresh challenges even for veteran players.
Ripatorium 3.0 arrives as a free update
Alongside the DLC launch, id Software also released the Ripatorium 3.0 update free of charge for all owners of DOOM: The Dark Ages. The update adds deeper customization options, an improved code-sharing system, and the ability to save and load custom presets. Players who own Revelations also gain access to three additional maps, new demons, and fully upgraded weapons to use in the customizable arena mode.
