ChainStaff: a journey to save Earth with a unique shape-shifting weapon

4

ChainStaff, a retro-inspired action game drawing inspiration from classic classics, officially launched on April 8, 2026 across PC and console platforms.

Battle against Star Spores

In ChainStaff, our planet is under attack by Star Spores, an alien force that has transformed life on Earth into aggressive giant insects. Players face a strange situation: a mysterious creature is attached firmly to the top of your head. However, this organism grants extraordinary power and the ability to control a weapon that can change the course of battle: ChainStaff.

Versatile weapon ChainStaff

The biggest highlight of the game is the ChainStaff weapon. With a single button, players can transform its function flexibly:

  • Launch it like a spear to destroy enemies.
  • Plant it in the ground to create a defensive shield.
  • Use it as a grappling hook to swing and traverse complex terrain.

Life-or-death decisions

Throughout your journey across surreal lands, you will encounter allies trapped in enemy encirclements. At this point, the game presents moral choices: rescue them or obey the voice of the strange creature in your head and "harvest" them to upgrade your power. Each decision leads to different benefits and multiple endings in the story.

Handcrafted art and energetic music

ChainStaff stands out with fully hand-drawn visuals inspired by 1970s and 1980s rock album covers. Accompanying these striking visuals is a high-energy heavy metal soundtrack composed by Deon van Heerden, who previously worked on Broforce and Warhammer 40k: Shootas Blood & Teef.

With its challenging gameplay and distinctive retro style, ChainStaff promises an engaging experience for fans of classic action games.
